How to apply


There is a continuous acceptance of applications.  Completed applications are reviewed in January, April, and August. The student can elect to start as early as the following semester or as late as the following fall semester.


Steps to applying for admission:

Find and talk to a potential mentor in the program.

Download an information packet.

1. Application Form
Please submit your application on-line at: http://admissions.memphis.edu Go to ‘Apply for Admission’ and then ‘Graduate Application.’ When asked, create a login ID and password; then simply follow the directions to complete your application. The application fee is $35.00 for domestic students (U.S. citizens) and $60.00 for international students.

2. Graduate Record Examination (General Test)
We require that you take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Please have the Educational Testing Service (ETS) send your scores to The University of Memphis (ETS Code 1459).

3. Official Transcripts
Please have all undergraduate and graduate transcripts mailed directly to: Office of Graduate Admissions, 101 Wilder Tower, The University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee 38152.

4. Letters of Recommendation
We require written recommendations from three individuals familiar with your academic background. They should send their recommendations to the Director of Graduate Studies at the address below. Their letters should specify in detail your aptitude and capabilities for Ph.D. work.

5. Personal Statement
We require a resume/vita describing all of your educational and work experience and a letter describing your research interests and professional goals Please send these documents to the Director of Graduate Studies at the address below.

6. Contact Information
